John passed away peacefully at age 84 in Guelph General Hospital on Sunday, January 10, 2021 from a heart attack.

Devoted husband of Sally (nee Simson) for 61 years. Beloved Father of Peter (Lee), Jane, David (Sherri), and Lee (Kevin predeceased). Cherished Grandfather of Max and Walker, Mark (Robyn), Craig and Steven, and Grace and Chloe. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Charlotte (nee MacEachern), brother Charles (Ruth), and sisters-in-law Carol and Margaret. Survived by his brother-in-law Doug Ball, and many nieces and nephews.

John grew up in small town Woodville Ontario, where the Stoddart family owned a funeral home. John met Sally in his first year at Waterloo College (Wilfred Laurier University). John worked summers out West at Lake Louis Hotel, before working stateside and playing hockey for Milwaukee’s amateur hockey league prior to marriage. John worked at Ford Motor Company for most of his career before opening Stoddart Lincoln Mercury in Guelph.

John was a do-it-yourselfer both at home and the cottage on Moon River, Bala. He was well known by everyone for his sense of humour, and willingness to lend a hand and an opinion. His love of music was obvious whenever he played the piano. John also loved spending time with his extended family at Kimberley Point, and Trinity United Church.

Many thanks to Guelph General’s ICU staff for the heartfelt and diligent care they extended to John and his family during this difficult time. In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. Due to Covid restrictions, a private family service will take place in the spring.

In John’s memory, donations can be made to Trinity United Church, 400 Stevenson St. N Guelph N1E 5C3 or the Foundation of the Guelph General Hospital. You may also leave your memories and donate online at the funeral home's website by clicking on John’s page.
