Kathleen Strauss (nee Love) of Guelph Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre, Guelph, May 15, 2023 in her 103rd year.  Born in St. John, NB she was the daughter of the late Lionel and Louisa Love.  Predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard, brother Sydney, sister-in-law Ida and nieces Judy Bryson (Love) and Nancy Goodwin (Love).  Kathleen is survived by her nephew Doug Love and his wife Lynne, honorary niece Donna Bryson and her husband John, great nieces, Julie, Jaclyn, Robyn, Jennifer, great nephews, James, David, Michael and Brian.  She is also survived by 9 great-great nieces and nephews.

Kathleen met the love of her life Richard while living in Montreal.   After getting married they settled in Montreal before moving to Burlington, Ontario.  At that time Kathleen retired from the Continental Canning Company after 37 years as an Executive Secretary.  Kathleen was a very dedicated daughter who cared for her mother until her death. She was also a Girl Guide Leader for many years, loved to travel and made many lifelong friends along the way. She generously shared the paintings Richard made during their travels, and was happy to see them find new homes. It was always a joy to receive lovely notes in amazing cursive handwriting; some received cards in the last months.

The next chapter brought Kathleen to Guelph to be closer to family who could care for her in her later years. Her ability to make friends served her well while she lived at the Royal on Gordon. She joined forces with her friend Anne to knit over 500 Izzy Dolls for children in 3rd world countries. Each one with its own designer outfit and hat. Family, friends and many charities also benefited from her beautiful knitting skills. For her final years, Kathleen was loving cared for by the wonderful staff in the Cedar Brook Neighbourhood at St. Joe’s where she served on the Residents’ Council. She loved to talk to staff and hear all about their lives and their families while sharing details of her own family.

A Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be held at Gilbert MacIntryre and Sons, Hart Chapel (1099 Gordon St., Guelph, ON) on June 17th, at 11:00 am.

If desired Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation, Guelph or The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital.
