Tachauer MM

June 4, 1929 – September 21, 2022
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Doreen (nee Vickers) on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the Guelph General Hospital in her 94th year.

Predeceased by her parents Harry and Alice (nee Lee) Vickers and by her loving husband of 65 years, Charles Tachauer. Survived by her children Nancy Allin (Ron) and David Tachauer (Lori). Much loved and missed by Tom and Michelle Langstaff.  Doreen was a devoted and loving grandmother to Adrienne Bell (Mike), Heather McDonald (Ian), Trevor Allin (Tammy), Andrew Tachauer (Amanda), Laura Cooper (Chad), Katie Langstaff and Daniel Langstaff. She will be sadly missed by great-grandchildren Evelyn, Matthew, Rachel, William, Colin, Paityn, Colby, Liam, Nathan, Owen, Claire and Evan. Doreen is also survived by sisters June, Joyce and Carol. Remembered by many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Born in Toronto on June 4, 1929 Doreen grew up in Mt Dennis. She married Charles on May 7, 1949 and raised their children in Rexdale where Doreen was a high school principal’s secretary. She was a life-long learner and enjoyed discussing her favourite topics of history and politics with students and staff. After retirement Doreen and Charles moved to Markdale to a country property, “The Farm”, where they spent 10 happy years. Moving to Guelph in 1989, Doreen and Charles became active members of Three Willows United Church where Doreen was secretary for 10 years. Doreen was special to all who knew and loved her. She was compassionate, supportive, dignified, curious, intelligent and often feisty! She was creative and loved to sew and knit. Affectionately known as our “cyber granny”, she loved her computer, iPad, Facetimes and Facebook which kept her connected with family and friends. Doreen was always welcoming and she and Charles offered warm hospitality, conversation, laughter, treats and games when you arrived at their home. She will be deeply missed.

Many thanks to the staff and residents at the Ellington retirement home where Doreen made many good friends and felt safe and comfortable these last 3 years. Special thanks and gratitude to Dr. B. Gerson who was so kind and dedicated in her care of Doreen.
