Todd Howard MM

November 13, 1941 - March 7, 2022

Howard James Todd of Guelph passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 7, 2022 at age 80.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of over 56 years, Ivadel "Ivy" Todd (nee Pegelo). Much loved father to Lori Dooks (Gary) and Michelle Todd (Dave Coulombe), all of Guelph, and the cherished Grandpa to Todd Ferringo (Megan Wood) of Breslau and Vinne Todd of Guelph. He will also be missed by Mike Ferringo (Anica).

He was the son of the late Harrison and Helen Todd (nee Bonar) and brother to Susan Homewood. He was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Elmer and Madeline Pegelo of Chesley. Loved brother-in-law of Ivan (Kathy) Pegelo, Dorothy (late Winston) Bell, and Marilyn (Bob) Slumskie. He will be missed by his extended family including cousins, nieces and nephews.

Born in Guelph, Howard was a man of many talents and accomplishments. In his younger days, he spent 3 years in The Royal Canadian Navy which gave him adventures all over the world, including the Cuban missile crisis of 1962. That same year he met his future bride, Ivy, at a dance while on leave.

He applied his skills to many different jobs before he settled in as a dedicated Firefighter with the City of Guelph for 28 years, retiring in 1999. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement job as a part-time driver for Bell Cartage.

Howard and Ivy continued their adventures during their long and happy retirement. After building their dream home near Dornoch, they went on many road trips and saw almost all of North America.

His many hobbies started with converting a school bus into a motorhome (still his favourite), house and cottage renos, wood carving, antique boat restoration, hunting, fishing and fixing whatever needed fixing. He even managed to learn to fly and successfully completed a solo flight.

You lived an amazing life, Howard. We love you and will miss you dearly.

In keeping with Howard's wishes, a private family gathering will be held. Interment at Chesley cemetery will take place in the spring. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.

A tree will be planted in memory of Howard J. Todd in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
