TONIN, Rita Maria (nee Bortolon)

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our
beloved mother. Rita was in her 81st year and passed away peacefully on
October 14, 2021.

She was dearly loved by her husband Arcangelo – they were married for 56
years before his passing in 2016. She was the devoted mother to David
(Heidi), Barbara (Paul Zen), Susan (Karen), Anna (David Burke), and Mark
(Leslie). Cherished Nonna to John, Joseph (Ooma), Brett (Roslyn),
Benjamin, Erica, Donna, Matthew, Jack, Grace, Liam, Nicole, Jake and
Stan.

Born in San Zenone Degli Ezzelini, Treviso, Italy to Rino and Maria
Bortolon (Zonta), Rita is survived by her brothers Vincenzo
(Antonietta), Bruno (Heidi) of Guelph and sister Giuseppina (Angelo
Serato) of Vedelago, Italy. Predeceased by her brother Augusto (Mary) of
Guelph. She is survived by many relatives in both Canada and Italy.

Rita immigrated to Canada in 1958. In Guelph, she met her husband
Arcangelo, married at a young age and began their family. Rita and
Arcangelo leave behind a legacy of family values and a strong work
ethic. Rita derived great pleasure and joy in the simple things in life
like tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. What we will cherish
and miss most is her love of authentic Italian cooking and baking. Rita
was a woman of great faith (forte di fede) and derived enormous strength
and courage from it. Her warm and welcoming nature, strength in good
times and bad, commitment to family, and a loving heart not only made
her a rock for her family but also nurtured a broader family in the
neighbourhood in which she was blessed to live.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care Ma received
during her short stay at Hospice Wellington. The nurses and staff
treated Ma with incredible care, kindness and dignity. Grazie.

Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099
Gordon Street, Guelph on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9
p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 98 Alice
Street, Guelph on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 11 a.m. To attend a
