Passed away peacefully at Riverside Glen on Friday, October 5, 2018, at the age of 87 years. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth Townsend and dear companion of the late Robert (Bob) Clarke. Dear mother of Anne of Guelph. Predeceased by her brothers Jack (the late Mary) Keith, Gordon (the late Helen C.) Keith and Bruce (the late Helen B.) Keith. Survived by her sisters Jean (Len) Bannerman of Goderich and Elda (the late Terry) Nethery of Wingham. She will be lovingly remembered by her 15 nieces and nephews.
Grace was a graduate of the Guelph General Hospital, class of 1952. She nursed in the obstetrical unit of GGH. She worked at Homewood Health Centre and then joined Dr. J. N. Phillips as his office nurse until her retirement. Grace enjoyed dancing, gardening, swimming, skating, travelling and singing – she was a member of the St. James’ choir.
Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Church of the Apostles, 86 Glasgow St. N., Guelph on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11 am. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment Memory Gardens, Breslau. The family would like to thank the staff and management of Riverside Glen for the excellent care that Grace received. Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Grace E. Townsend in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 2:30 pm.
