Of Guelph, passed away peacefully at home after a valiant battle with cancer, on Saturday, September 23, 2017, in her 88th year. 

Beloved wife of the late Bruce Truscott. Predeceased by her parents Aileen and Gordon Murless. Loving mother of Gordon (Rosa) Truscott of Guelph, Cathy McDougall of Vancouver Island, Arlene (Barry) Dawn of Guelph, Julie (Charles) Bridges of Guelph and Wendy (Jamie Katerberg) Truscott of Fergus. Grandmother of Josh and Jeremy Dawn, Bill (Sami Jo Small) Bridges, Elissa (Trevor) Jacobson, Daniel, Ben and Katelyn Bridges, Karen (Hide) Watanabe, Ian Ferris and Zachary Katerberg. Great grandmother of Kensi Small Bridges and Amelia Jacobson. Barbara will be missed by her friend and sister-in-law Joan Wiethorn, her brother-in-law Alan (Marlene) Truscott, many nieces and nephews and her cousins Gordon Murless and Georgina Bolton of Mississauga. 

Barbara was born on August 25, 1930 in Toronto. She graduated from St. Joseph’s College of Nursing, Toronto as a registered nurse in 1952 and spent 33 years nursing both here in Guelph and in Sackville, NB. Upon retirement she and her husband Bruce spent many wonderful years cruising the world. Barbara will be remembered for her many years of volunteer work beginning when her girls were young as a brownie leader and later on as transportation coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society, assisting at Red Cross Blood donor clinics, running the gift shop at Guelph General Hospital and recognized for her many years of service at the Evergreen Senior Centre, beginning in 1992. She also spent many years involved with the Women’s Institute and the United Church Women. 

Barbara had a strong faith and was a longtime member of Harcourt United Church and more recently attended Parkwood Gardens Church with her family. 

The family would like to thank Pastor Brian Magnus, his wife Lynette, Pastor Mike Dell and the many others from Parkwood Gardens Church who visited and offered prayers and encouragement. 

We would also like to thank CCAC and Bayshore staff for all their loving care these past months, especially nurses Laura and Susan, Dr. Bailey, Chaplin Garth Whittich, and Felicia and Mari Jane. 

Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph on Sunday, September 24th from 7-9 pm and Monday, September 25th from 2-4 pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, September 26th, 2017 at 2:30 pm. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre. 

Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Salvation Army would be appreciated. 

A tree will be planted in memory of Barbara J. Truscott in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 2:30 pm.
