VAN OOTEGHEM, Michael

Mike passed away without pain or suffering on his way home to the love of his life Alexa, after watching the Leafs beat the Flames with his best buddy Marty. It was a great night with a tragic ending.

To say that Mike will be missed by many is an understatement. Mike’s sarcastic wit, loving heart and genuine kindness impacted everyone he met. He played, worked and loved fully without reservation. There was nothing he wasn’t good at. As most know, Mike was fiercely competitive, especially in golf against his brother Andrew. He was quick with the jabs and even quicker to hide behind the bigger guys in the crowd. Mike was one smart guy. He always had a smile on his face, remained positive even in the toughest of situations and was always compassionate toward others.

He was the best friend, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, son and grandson any of us could have ever asked for.

In Mike’s honour, please don’t ever take another day for granted and be thankful for those special people in your life.

Michael was born in the mountains of Kimberley, B.C. on August 12, 1991.
