Vanderzee Helen MM

Passed away surrounded by her loving family on November 9 at Hospice Wellington at the age of 88.

The beloved wife for 65 years of Geert (Gerry), Lenie was the much loved mother of Ron (Lynn), Jacqueline (Rod), Karin (Lindsey), Ellen (Doug), Nancy (Jay) and Cindy (Peter). She was the cherished Oma to Michael (Erica), Matthew (Amanda), Shelly, Taylor (Noah), Brooke, Olivia, Jenna, Thatcher Grace, Ryerson and Anneka. Lenie was the loving sister of Frans (Suze), Ton (Ada) and sister-in-law of Maaike. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many.

Lenie was born in Den Haag, Netherlands on January 1, 1933. She lived through the World War II occupation helping her Mom with her two younger brothers while her Dad was in the work camps. In 1952, she met Geert when she was playing handball for the Dutch National Team. They were married in 1956 and started their family. In 1969, with four young children, as well as grit and determination, they decided to start a new life in Canada. Four years later they added a set of twins to their family. Lenie was a strong, determined and hardworking woman who led by example and always put her family first. Her kindness, generosity, warm and cheerful smile and great sense of humour will certainly be missed by all who knew her.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.  If desired, a donation to Hospice Wellington, The Diabetes Foundation or the Foundation of the Guelph General Hospital would be appreciated by her family. Her family would like to thank the staff and residents of Arbour Trails for their care and friendship and everyone at Hospice Wellington for their care and compassion.

A tree will be planted in memory of M. Helen Vanderzee in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
