It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Laszlo Vastag on August 21, 2023 surrounded by his family at the age of 82.

Loving husband to the late Irene (2022) for 62 wonderful years. Devoted father to Sylvia Durcik (Mike) and Robert Vastag (Melanie). Treasured grandfather to Sara (Tibor), Stephanie (Tom), Michael, Emma, and Alexandre. Proud great grandfather of Sebastian, Florian, Adrian, and Benjamin. Predeceased by his parents Balazs and Verona and his siblings Ilonka, Istvan, Verona, and Maria. He will be missed by all his nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Laszlo immigrated to Canada in 1968 from former Yugoslavia with his wife and young daughter. He worked as a machinist at Linamar for many years and along the way he and Irene helped others start their new lives in Canada.

He will always be remembered for his love of sports, fishing, playing cards, his sense of humour, and love for friends and family.

The Vastag family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Doctors and Nurses for their kind and compassionate care.

Resting at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph where the family invites friends and relatives for a visitation on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Joseph’s Church, 409 Paisley Rd., Guelph, on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 10:00am. Interment at Marymount Catholic Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with the love of his life. A reception is to follow at the Hungarian Canadian Club, 979 Kossuth Rd., Cambridge.

As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
