There aren’t words to describe the unexpected loss of a loving Wife, Mom, and Grandmother. Rosalie passed suddenly in her 86th year bringing a family generation to a close. Recently predeceased by her adoring and devoted husband, and partner in everything, only 7 months ago, Rosalie longed to be reunited with her “Bill” and clearly fate heard her calling. She passed the day before their 53rd anniversary of his marriage proposal. Having never been apart for Valentine’s Day since, it is fitting that they were together again for that day this year.
The story goes that Bill was immediately captivated by Rosalie’s strong and vibrant personality. “Love at first sight” for both, which led to a quick proposal and wedding all within an 8-month span. It was the start of an epic love story filled with incredible joy, devotion, and adventure spanning over 52 years.
A loving Mom to Matthew (Sonia) and Carly, who always lent an ear, and provided unconditional love, comfort and support throughout their lives. She opened them to a world filled with the arts and unlimited possibilities where she continually provided opportunities to learn and grow through great conversations about the everyday world.
An incredibly loved Grandma to Joshua, Amelia, and Caleb, who she referred to as her three Angels. She loved engaging them in a variety of activities, who read and sang to them (even as they got older), joked with them, baked with them (at least her best attempts), and provided many life lessons as they grew. Grandma always loved to hear the latest life news, celebrate their successes, and work in a laugh or two along the way.
The beloved daughter of pre-deceased Samuel and Providence Galante and dear sister to Sam (Rosanne), Victor (Predeceased), Frances (Predeceased), Greg and Christine.
Family was everything to Rosalie. Within her own family, her brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins, no matter the situation, the distance and even disagreements, she would do her best to keep connected to everyone. The long friendships she forged were also her family, creating bonds that lasted a lifetime and pulled people together that created expanded relationships well beyond those of her own.
Rosalie was a woman of influence. From her years as a teacher, developing the creativity of so many in the arts, to her time shaping young minds during their elementary years, to her role as a Wife, Mom and Grandmother, her presence helped shape the lives of so many. Her strong will and determination were inspiring as she often demonstrated that every challenge can be tackled with grit and hard work. In addition, she was a devoted friend who always found time for a chat or laugh, was quick to lend a hand, and was a fierce supporter, reinforcer or advocate whenever it was needed.
Rosalie will be cremated with a celebration of life to be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rosalie’s name to the Arthritis Society of Canada or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. Rosalie will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
