Words can not express the deep sadness we feel with the passing of Mary
Claire Whitney on Friday January 15th, 2021, at home surrounded by her
husband Ken and her children at the age of 88. Loving wife of Ken Alsop,
mother to Rebecca (Martin), Krysta (Jody), Michelle (Mark), John
(Jennifer) and William. Doting and cherished grandmother to Whitney
(Paul), Katherine (Joel), Meredith (Gerry) and Lily and great
grandmother to Acacia, Noah, Amelia, Quinn and Stella. Survived by her
younger sister Barbara Giffen (Patrick) who she traveled with and sailed
southern shores of Nova Scotia.

Predeceased by many family and friends, most notably her best friend
Carol who beat her to the pearly gates. Claire touched the lives of all
the people she met and included everyone at her table when she was
cooking up a storm. She could light up a room (and work it!). The love
of family and of friends, were her most precious values.

Claire loved her gardens and began organic gardening in the mid 70’s on
the farm. She took up golf and canoeing in her 60’s, winter camping and
cycling in her 70’s and the love of her life was her e-bike. Sweet with
a side of zest, Claire was a true adventurer. She instilled the love of
the outdoors and the appreciation of the natural world in all of us. Her
spirit lives on.

Thanks to Dr. Anna and Dr. Sid and all the PSW’s at LIN as well as the
entire Right at Home team, special thanks to Britney, who was a godsend
to the family.

Government imposed Covid restrictions (that violate the charter of
rights to gather) will not allow us to honor our mother’s life the way
it should be. A celebration of life for Claire will take place when she
can be honored properly.

Rest in peace mamma bear
