Passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer, at Hospice Wellington, on October 25, 2016 at the age of 72 years. Dennis believed he was put on this earth for the prime purpose of helping others.  This was evident in the decades of his life he dedicated to teaching and coaching, not only academics and athletics, but also life lessons.  His love and time devoted to his family was never ending and this love was reciprocated by all. He taught English and Math for thirty years at King George Senior Elementary School.  He began coaching softball in 1976 and then coached both boys and girls basketball at John F. Ross and Centre Wellington for close to forty years.  The relationships he built continued long after retirement as students and players became friends.  He was the recipient of the Chairman’s Quality Plus  Award in recognition for his outstanding contributions to helping youth reach their full potential. Dennis is survived by his wife and best friend, Sandi.  Proud and devoted father of Jeramy and Justin (Emma).  Dear brother of Cathy Thompson (Ted), brother in-law of Nancy Wilkes and Bob Holohan (June).  Fondly remembered by cousins, nephews and many friends.  Predeceased by his brother Lindsay (2007). Friends may call at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2016.   Memorial service in the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place.  Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.  We invite you to leave your condolences and donations online at www.gilchristchapel.com.
