A Guelph woman has been arrested after her young daughter was found wandering the halls of their apartment building Sunday morning.

Police say they were called just after 11 a.m. to an apartment building in the city’s west end after the superintendent observed the four-year-old wandering alone on two different floors. Officers attended the child’s home and determined it was not a safe living environment, with garbage and evidence of drug use throughout the unit.

Investigation determined the child had been alone since at least 3 a.m. During the more than two hours police were on scene no adult attended to check on the child, who was apprehended by Family and Children’s Services.

A 36-year-old woman was arrested Monday and is charged with abandoning a child and failing to provide necessities of life to a child.
