Guelph woman scammed out of $3,000 via text

Guelph police reminds resident to be cautious about providing personal details after a Guelph female lost $3,000 in an online scam.

The victim contacted police Thursday. She had received a text supposedly to reschedule a delivery. Believing it was legitimate the woman clicked on an included link and provided her banking information. A short time later she received a notification $2,999 had been transferred out of her account.

Residents are encouraged to be wary of any telephone call, email or text which requires you to take immediate action. It is always best to independently contact the supposed sender and confirm the legitimacy of the correspondence before taking action.
