A Guelph man faces several charges after he was found passed out in his vehicle Sunday night, police report.

Just before midnight, police were called to the area of Dawson Road and Woodlawn Road West where they found a man passed out in the driver’s seat of a car. The man was awakened and showed signs of drug impairment.

He was placed under arrest for impaired driving, and a search revealed a container of suspected methamphetamine in the driver’s door. Analysis at the police station revealed the man's ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drugs.

Further investigation revealed the man had been involved in two gas drive-off thefts earlier this year in which a total of $127 in gas was stolen.

A 39-year-old is charged with impaired operation, possessing a controlled substance and two counts of theft under $5,000.
