Man arrested after allegedly pulling knife on police

A 38-year-old Guelph man faces a number of weapons charges after allegedly pulling a knife on police when officers responded to a Saturday evening dispute. The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m.

A 38-year-old Guelph man faces a number of weapons charges after allegedly pulling a knife on police when officers responded to a Saturday evening dispute.

The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. in the area of Victoria Road North and Brant Avenue, where a female reported she’d been threatened, explains a Guelph Police Service news release. 

When police arrived, they saw a man standing in front of the address staring and laughing. He then reached into his back pocket and began walking toward two officers, ignoring demands to take his hand out of his pocket.

A third officer at the scene grabbed the man from behind as he pulled out a folded pocket knife, the news release states.

The accused is charged with possessing a weapons for a dangerous purpose, possessing a prohibited weapon and two counts of possessing a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, as well as one count of uttering threats.
