Six teenagers from the Hamilton and Niagara areas were arrested early Thursday after a Guelph police cruiser was rammed by a stolen vehicle.

Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the area of Harts Lane East and Bathgate Drive for reports of individuals going through cars. They located a 2022 Ford Explorer SUV which had been reported stolen last month in Niagara Region. While officers were attempting to stop the vehicle, it was intentionally driven into a cruiser causing minor damage.

The SUV fled but crashed on a nearby lawn and the occupants fled on foot. Eventually all six were arrested with the assistance of Guelph Police Service dog Jett.

Four males and two females, ranging in age from 14 to 17, are charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000. A 16-year-old Hamilton male is further charged with dangerous driving, flight from police and three counts of breaching court orders. Two of the youths have been released with January court dates, while the rest will appear in bail court Friday.
