Guelph police laid three impaired charges on the long weekend, including one who also faces a drug charge.
Police say just before 1 a.m. Saturday, a vehicle was stopped after leaving a licensed establishment in the west end. The officer detected an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. After failing a roadside test, the driver was transported to the police station where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving.
Approximately 7:40 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a driving complaint in the area of Speedvale Avenue West and Edinburgh Road North. The vehicle was stopped and the driver determined to be wanted for missing a court date earlier in the month.
The driver was arrested on the outstanding warrant and was observed to be showing signs of drug impairment. At the police station she was examined by a drug recognition expert who determined her ability to operate a vehicle was impaired. She refused to provide a blood or urine sample for further analysis.
During a search of the woman’s property three small baggies of suspected heroin were located.
A 32-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving, failing to attend court, possessing a controlled substance and refusing to comply with a demand. She was held for a bail hearing.
At 3:40 p.m. Monday, police were called for a collision in the parking lot of the Beer Store on Woolwich Street. Investigation revealed a driver was leaving the parking lot when she lost control of her vehicle, which mounted the curb and struck a cement pole.
After failing a roadside test she was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system. A 28-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving.
