Vehicle theft, weapons charges laid in February shooting in Fergus

A 33-year-old Elora resident is facing a slew of charges after being arrested

Wellington County OPP Crime Unit has laid charges related to a Feb.  8, 2022, shooting that targeted a Millburn Boulevard home in Fergus. As a result of the investigation, Ryan Jacob Robert Amaral, 33 years old of Elora, has been charged with:

  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle
  • Theft of electricity or gas (under $5,000)
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Discharge a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner
  • Discharge a restricted firearm or a prohibited firearm with intent
  • Failure to comply with release order (X2)
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
