Woman wanted for shoplifting later found to have bear spray

On Wednesday night a woman entered a store near the intersection of Clair Road East and Gordon Street.

On Wednesday night a woman entered a store near the intersection of Clair Road East and Gordon Street.

She proceeded to gather numerous pieces of merchandise throughout the store, scanned all the items at the self checkout, and then left the store with all the items making no attempt to pay.

Thursday at 7:07 a.m., police observed the woman walking in the downtown core and she was subsequently arrested.

A search incident to arrest revealed a container of bear attack repellent spray.

A 35 year old Guelph female has been charged with:
- Theft under $5,000
- Breach probation
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Fail to comply with a judicial release order

She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
