83 Hearn: Exceptional design built on deep family roots

Newly listed Guelph home fits in and stands apart at the same time

It feels good to fit in.

As a builder constructing a new home in an established neighbourhood, Mezcon Construction Limited felt it was important that 83 Hearn Avenue fit in with the aesthetic of the surrounding neighbourhood.

The result is a shining example of purposeful home construction with exceptional design elements.

Builder Zach Fischer had a sentimental reason to ensure other homeowners on Hearn Avenue were happy with the newest addition to their neighbourhood. 83 Hearn was built on a lot once deeded to his grandfather; the lot was severed, and his grandmother occupied the existing house. With the new build, careful consideration was taken to ensure the house didn’t seem out of place.

“It’s a nice quiet area, and pretty much all the houses on the street are constructed with red brick or stone,” said Karla Fischer, co-owner of the house with husband Zach. “We really studied the neighbourhood to see what would fit in and look good, so neighbours were going to be happy, rather than just build a big modern home with a big garage up front.”

What stands is a beautifully constructed home completed in October 2019 that looks like it has been part of the popular, centrally-located Guelph neighbourhood since day one.  The red brick façade, towering two-story A-frame peak and large, covered front porch give this home its instantly inviting street appeal. Step inside, and you’ll discover a warm and masterfully designed open-concept main floor kitchen with nine-foot ceilings and white oak flooring. Accented with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, wine rack, bar fridge and huge island, this is a dream room for anyone who loves to entertain. Additionally, an oversized 16-foot sliding door leads directly to a large back deck, extending the space for entertaining and flooding the area with natural light.

Follow the elegantly illuminated stairway to the second floor, and you’ll find more examples of intelligent design. The master bedroom features vaulted ceilings, a massive walk-in closet, cosmetic bar, spacious stand-up shower and ensuite equipped with a double-sized vanity. Another full bathroom and two spaciously-sized bedrooms also grace the upstairs, as does a convenient second-floor laundry.

There are other reasons, to love 83 Hearn. Beautifully chosen light fixtures match throughout the entire home, a built-in speaker system with Bluetooth capabilities livens the rooms with music and an oversized window in the stairwell adds another channel for natural light to brighten the heart of the living space.

Finally, a full basement apartment featuring a separate entrance, full kitchen and large-sized bedroom means whoever moves in can generate additional income for as long as they’d like. And although it’s a new build, the existing landscaping gives it the feel of a well-established home.

“There are a lot of trees, including two in our front yard and a third one to the right of the garage,” explained Karla. “The whole neighbourhood has that natural feel.”

Located in close proximity to Guelph Montessori School, Paisley Road Public School (French  Immersion), St. Joseph Catholic School, Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School, as well as nearby grocery stores and restaurants, 83 Hearn Avenue is a homeowner’s dream.
