Chiropodists are medical professionals who focus on lower limb biomechanics, dermatology, infectious diseases and diabetic wound care. Though many people have not heard of chiropody, it is an important medical specialization. That’s why BioPed has recently renovated their medical footcare clinic in order to be able to offer the community even more of the important medical services that chiropodists specialize in.

“At BioPed, we want to offer a full circle of lower limb care. It is important to us that we can offer our patients all-encompassing treatment, whether it is diabetic foot care, ingrown toenails, gait assessments or orthotics,” explains Meghan Knox, BioPed Guelph Clinic Manager.

Chiropody Care Covers Many Foot-Related Issues

Chiropodists specialize in a number of foot-related medical issues for patients of all ages. Seemingly simple issues like in-grown toenails, warts, corns and toenail fungus are best treated by a chiropodist. They have access to treatments that are more likely to be effective at getting rid of the most stubborn foot issues.

Chiropodists also care for more serious foot and lower limb problems like diabetic wound care. They also treat problems that need minor, in-clinic surgeries like in-grown toenail removal and tendon replacement therapy. Chiropodists are licensed to prescribe drugs and treatments that are not available over-the-counter.

No Referral Required

Patients do not need a referral or a prescription to see a chiropodist and their services are covered under most third-party insurance providers. Patients can easily schedule an appointment with one of BioPed’s on-site chiropodists to discuss their foot health concerns.

Expanded Scope of Services

With the newly renovated medical footcare clinic at BioPed complete, they are adding another chiropodist in order to expand availability.

On top of chiropody, BioPed offers free lower limb assessments, custom orthotics, bracing, compression socks and diabetic foot care. Anyone who is experiencing pain in their lower limbs (knees, ankles, feet, or legs) should consult one of their in-house healthcare professionals.

“We do everything in-house and our newly renovated medical foot care room adds to the services that we are able to offer our patients,” says Meghan. “We want our patients to be able to take care of their foot health all in one place.”

To book an appointment with a chiropodist or any of the other foot care specialists at BioPed, stop in at their Guelph clinic, which is located at 102 Wyndham Street North, visit them online or call 519-821-7310.
