Dealing with foot and lower limb issues can be uncomfortable and even downright painful. Fortunately, the team of pedorthists at BioPed are equipped to provide their patients with custom orthotics and professionally modified footcare in their in-house lab.

“We can modify existing footwear and create or modify custom orthotics on-site, which makes the turnaround much faster. People can be back on their feet without waiting weeks,” says Meghan Knox, clinic manager and certified Canadian pedorthist at BioPed in Guelph.

In most cases, an orthotic modification can be done while you wait. This is great news for folks who can’t or don’t want to be without their proper footwear for long periods of time.

Continuous Circle of Care is Important

It is not just the speed that makes a difference for BioPed’s patients, though.

Meghan explains, “Everything we do, we do ourselves and we make ourselves. Whoever assesses you is going to be one to fit you and the one to follow up with you. This continuation of care makes a big difference for our clients.”

She continues, “It isn’t just the physical assessment that helps us to create the right type of orthotics for our patients. It is also understanding each person’s unique lifestyle, types of shoes they wear, their weight, activity level, job, and their overall preferences. It is important that the same person who knows you is the one who is going to make your orthotic and is also going to make any necessary modifications in the future.”

Custom Orthotics and Shoe Modifications Right Here in Guelph

At BioPed, the team provides a wide range of customization and modification services in their in-house lab.

“For example, sometimes a shoe can wear unevenly and become tilted so we can replace the sole with a brand new one. This can help you to avoid having to buy a whole new pair of shoes,” says Meghan.

“If someone has a tricky foot, we can adjust the footwear to help with the fit. We can take a shoe or a sandal and customize it to your foot based on your needs. Sometimes something simple like extending a strap can make a big difference. For really special feet, we carry sandals that have a removable liner which makes it easy to wear your orthotic.”

The first step to feeling more comfortable on your feet is to make an appointment for a lower limb assessment with one of BioPed’s certified Canadian pedorthists.
