As the holiday season approaches and you start decorating your homes and getting ready for an influx of guests and events, it’s important to remember that you need to take care of your home comfort systems as well.

Your heating, plumbing and electrical systems all get a workout at this time of year, so let’s do a quick review of some important dos and don’ts, courtesy of Oosterveld Heating and Air Conditioning.

“The holiday season, with overnight guests, tree and Christmas lighting and décor, can put extra pressure on your electrical system,” said Mark Pooles, Oosterveld General Manager. “If you do need to use extension cords and power bars, make sure you are using them safely and wisely, and if you have lights flickering or other electrical issues, get your panel checked out by a professional.”

Plumbing can also be a problem during the holidays. Pooles advised, “Make sure not to pour your turkey juices and fats down your drain, that will only lead to big issues, right when you need them working the most. Dispose of fats in your garbage to keep your drains clear and working for you.”

Of course, you had your furnace checked over by a licensed professional, before the heating season started, right? But, if you didn’t, “Make sure you get your furnace or heat pump checked now, before your holiday guests arrive,” said Pooles. “It’s never too late!”

And remember, even if your home comfort systems fail you over the holidays, you and your guests won’t be left out in the cold. “The team at Oosterveld Heating and Air Conditioning is available 24/7, 365 days a year,” reassured Pooles. “So, even if systems go down on Christmas day, you can reach us, and we will come and repair or replace your system. We offer same day/next day replacement of new home comfort systems,” he completed.

“We hope you all have a safe and comfortable holiday season,” said Pooles. “Happy holidays from Oosterveld Heating and Air Conditioning.”
