The Guelph Wish Fund for Children, a grassroots organization dedicated to supporting local children facing significant illnesses, life-altering injuries, or rare and debilitating syndromes, recently concluded their annual fundraising events with outstanding success.

The 35th Annual Golf Tournament and 3rd Annual Online Auction raised record funds to fulfill the wishes of deserving children in the community.

The generosity of the donors and community participants has set a new benchmark for fundraising, enabling the organization to bring joy and hope to even more children in need.

The Guelph Wish Fund for Children provides wishes and support to children under 19 residing in Guelph or Wellington County. The organization aims to make their lives brighter by granting wishes that bring joy and happiness during challenging times.

To refer a child to the Guelph Wish Fund for Children, specific requirements need to be met. The child must be under 19 and living in Guelph or Wellington County. Additionally, they must face a significant illness, a life-altering injury, or a rare and debilitating syndrome. Referrals can be made by parents, healthcare professionals, or community members who are familiar with the child's situation.

There are various ways to get involved for individuals looking to contribute and help grant a wish. Donations can be made directly to the Guelph Wish Fund for Children as a one-time contribution or through regular giving. Additionally, the organization welcomes volunteers passionate about making a difference in the lives of these children.

“The Guelph and Wellington County community has been so good to the wish kids over the years. We appreciate the generosity. Since we don’t have a limit to the number of wish kids in our program, and with more and more families approaching us for help, it’s important that the community knows about us and continues to donate. The Guelph Wish Fund for Children gives the wish kids respite, hope, smiles, and a sense of belonging - exactly what every child deserves.” said Helen Loftin, Executive Director

The value of a wish granted by the Guelph Wish Fund for Children is substantial. Upon acceptance into the program, a wish account is created for the child, with a value of up to $10,000. These funds can be utilized all at once or spread over several years for multiple smaller items. The wish expenditures must be completed before the child turns 19 years old, ensuring they receive the full benefit of their granted wish.

"This wish for Jessica has added some joy to her life filled with surgeries and medical appointments, and we can't thank you enough." said the mother of one of the children.

Encouraged by the success of their recent events, the Guelph Wish Fund for Children has announced a second golf tournament, the 9 and Dine Tournament, to take place on September 22nd at the Victoria Valley Golf Course. This non-competitive event will consist of nine holes followed by a dinner and entertainment, providing another opportunity for the community to unite and support local children in need.

The Guelph Wish Fund for Children was founded in August 1984 by Ron Asselstine and Alan Ferris. Inspired by a heartwarming story of a young boy granted a wish, the founders decided to establish a similar initiative in their hometown of Guelph. Since then, the organization has grown steadily, fulfilling hundreds of children's and their families wishes.

The Guelph Wish Fund for Children has a dynamic volunteer board, professional staff, and dedicated community supporters and volunteers. The organization is self-reliant, managing its finances and actively engaging in outreach efforts to accomplish its mission.
