It’s one thing to add new technology to your automotive repair shop. It’s another thing to have the qualified, competent people on staff who can integrate it into the list of services offered.

Thankfully, Vinnie’s Mr Fix-It has stayed on top of the changes in the automotive industry, which has helped the company’s two locations to continue offering exceptional service to customers across the Guelph area. One of the most recent changes was the addition of Corey Brown to the team at Vinnie’s north end shop.

Brown spent many years as a master technician with Guelph Nissan and, as a result, has a ton of experience with Nissan and Honda vehicles.

“I’ve known Corey pretty much for 30 years, almost since Grade 1 or 2,” said Klimkosz. “He’s really good with regular maintenance and is an all around great tech with nearly 20 years in the trade. He does a lot more things that we never used to offer, a lot of the fancy techy stuff. He’s one of the best guys in Guelph for all that stuff. We’re really lucky to have him.”

One of Brown’s areas of expertise is with electrical components including the installation of remote starters, plus repairs of in-cab technology like cameras and computers. “There are a lot of different versions of remote car starters available now,” said Klimkosz. “They’re not like the old ones where you had to cut and solder and splice and chop wires. A lot of them now are plug and play, and you can even use your own factory remote to make them work. They’re very advanced compared to what used to be on the market.”

Another new addition at Vinnie’s is the recent purchase of a transmission flush machine, which Klimkosz says delivers an efficient and environmentally friendly way to service transmissions.

“It’s a fluid exchange system that creates zero waste,” he said. “The exact amount of fluid that comes out goes back into the vehicle and is great for transmission exchanges and filter. It’s state of the art.” In another innovative move at both locations of Vinnie’s Mr Fix-It is the integration of the exclusive product line from BG, the leading manufacturer and supplier of automotive fuel and oil conditioners, specialty chemicals, greases, and tools.

“This line is only available to professional auto shops,” said Klimkosz. “It includes fuel system cleaners, engine cleaners, crank case cleaners, and additives for the engine. You can’t go to a store and buy them. We now offer that service and it’s great for improved fuel systems. With gas around $1.40 a litre you want to m ake sure your vehicle is running properly and not hard on fuel.”

With the addition of Brown, the team at Vinnie’s has now grown to eight, but Klimkosz said they’re still looking to add more staff to the team. “Ideally we’re looking for licensed technicians with at least three to four years in the automotive trade or related experience.”
