Premium custom home builder approaches each project as if it was his own

Mathew Piacampo strives for comfort, functionality and beauty in every build

A custom-built home isn’t truly a custom-built when a builder presents you with three options. Just ask Mathew Piacampo of PCR Group in Guelph.

“When you’re starting something from nothing and building a home that is unique to that person, and with a design that suits their needs, that is a custom-built home,” says Piacampo, who formerly operated under the name of Piacampo Construction and Renovations and just changed the name to PCR Group Ltd. in February.  “Custom-built means taking care of all of the details that make it comfortable, functional and beautiful.”

Originally a licensed steamfitter, Piacampo said he slowly started taking notice of the beauty of custom-built homes and saw the joy they brought to their owners. While growing up, he often saw the craftsmanship of his father’s work, who worked as a finish carpenter. He saw how his attention to detail and quality workmanship were the steps that could make a project really stand out. It ultimately made him realize that beauty truly is in the details.

“I pushed towards custom-building by initially starting with renovations and it was hands-on learning from there,” says Piacampo. He still enjoys renovations, particularly high-end bathrooms or home additions, but most often you’ll find him building premium homes from the ground up. Currently, he’s building a custom home on Mary Street, in the older, established University of Guelph neighbourhood.

What most often surprises customers is that Piacampo is typically the builder and jack-of-all-trades.  When warranted, he’ll hire Corey Morrison of CM Contracting as his sub-contractor.  All of his materials, suppliers and sub-trades must be equally passionate about delivering quality outcomes.

“It has been a long process of learning,” says Piacampo. “I really didn’t put myself out there (beyond renovations) until I could really offer something.”

People interested in tracking Piacampo’s latest custom build can also see his work-in-progress via his business Facebook and Instagram pages. He also shares building and renovation tips as well.  And he doesn’t hesitate to photograph, and document work that is well-done by a local supplier or contractor on his sites.

He’s generous in sharing tips and shout-outs because it was thanks to the on-going advice of a personal connection that he was able to venture into the real estate market – John Clark and the RC Team.

And Piacampo couldn’t have asked for a better connection. John Clark and the RC Team’s presence in the real estate community is well-recognized. As a Royal LePage realtor, they’ve been the recipient of the Diamond, Director’s Platinum Awards for consistent realty performance and are a member of the Royal LePage Chairman’s Club (top 1% of Royal LePage agents). In addition, John Clark and the RC Team are a Lifetime Member of the Award of Excellence.

“John and Collette from the RC Team helped me find the first project that I built and find my way into the high-end market with the Lynwood and Dean (streets) build,” he says. “John is my agent to buy and sell and has become a good friend.”

John Clark and the RC Team credits Piacampo’s ability to listen to people’s ideas and was impressed with his drive and ambition. “When Mat is working on a project, he is making sure everything is done correctly and he takes on every project as if it is his own and that is a quality that is rare.”

He adds that Piacampo has always been focused on learning everything he could about the real estate market.

“I’m very proud to be associated with someone with that integrity and drive to succeed and who is committed to making the customer happy,” says John.
