MAPLETON ‒ Staff are recommending council approve hefty salary increases for both the mayor and councillors in 2024.

In a new report being presented to council on Tuesday, staff are recommending increasing both the mayor's and councillors' official salaries to "average" amounts in 2024 as their remuneration is currently the lowest in Wellington County.

With the proposed increase, Mayor Gregg Davidson and the other councillors will make $35,482 and $21,800 in 2024

According to the 2023 budget, Davidson will make $26,939 this year, 31.7 per cent below what is considered a reasonable pay target.

Each councillor will earn $18,772 in 2023, 16 per cent below what is considered reasonable.

Mapleton council remuneration was last reviewed by an Ad Hoc Committee in early 2019, nearly five years ago.

The newly imposed amounts will be adjusted annually by the previous calendar year's Consumer Price Index (CPI) beginning January 2025.
