LETTER: Remembering plants around the Ward

'Boy, has our downtown changed, and I would not necessarily say for the better. It is a lot scarier now, unfortunately,' letter writer says

GuelphToday received the following letter from  Lea Anne Stonehouse regarding the memory lane mentioned in our recent article titled 'Remembering The Ward's working class heroes' posted May 21.

I just wanted to say how interesting it was to go down memory lane in the Ward. Being born and raised in Guelph and nearly 70, I was aware of some of these plants in the Ward, but not as many as this article shows. I just remember being told not to go down there as a young girl as it was a tougher side of town. We lived near King George school, and I would sometimes use the 100 steps to get to downtown, where my dad (Don Stonehouse) co-owned and managed Kennedy's Bookstore for 31 years on upper Wyndham.

Boy, has our downtown changed, and I would not necessarily say for the better. It is a lot scarier now, unfortunately.

Thanks for the article.
