My wife worked in nursing for nearly 40 years. She was one of the first half dozen or so ladies that started the local home care nursing program. It was a wonderful home support service for post hospital patients .
The provincial government decided it had to reorganize and regionalize the system. The hands on nursing support became secondary to filling in your daily work on computers. At one point the nurses had to fill in a time chart for their whole shift. Those were compassionate caring nurses forced to become data recorders. The government added more managers to supervise the new system and the actual hands on nursing support began its decline. Career nurses left their beloved jobs and retired or took other jobs. It became impossible to call and talk to nurse. You just got an answering machine. The system ruined the program . Perhaps this is what has happened to GP doctoring.
