In their own words, candidates tell us a little bit about themselves and where they stand on the issues. A different ward will be featured each evening this week.

Name: Nathan Ford

Occupation: Registered massage therapist

How long have you lived in Guelph? Most of my life, I spent a year in KW and a little time in Toronto but always came back here.

Do you reside in the ward you are running in? I do.

Why are you running in this election? My job as an RMT is to help people, I want to translate that to help in this city.

What qualifies you to represent your ward? I've been in this location for 14 years, it's a diverse ward and i have friends all in all parts of it.

Why should people vote for you? The city needs a change, there has been a lot of heel dragging and I would like to see that changed.

What do you see as the main issues facing residents of the ward? With being part of the downtown core we have a duty to help with the homelessness.

What do you see as the main issues facing residents of Guelph on a broader scale?  Housing is top three on people's minds, we need it. The city is growing quickly.

What is the most important thing you want to see changed in Guelph? I would love to see solutions to the big three issues, (housing, mental health, addiction).

What services need to be improved in Guelph? I think we need to have a medical centre to assist people struggling.

Is Guelph growing too fast, just the right amount, or not fast enough? Hard to say, but we need to make sure we stay on top of it as best we can as it isn't really in our control, can't blame people for wanting to come here.

What can be done at the local level about the rising cost of housing? The city needs to step in, we need to create affordable options for residents to live.

What can be done locally about the homelessness issue? Well going back to a medical centre and affordable housing would help.

How do we make Guelph an even better city to live in? Guelph is a great city, taking the steps to help those in need, perhaps lead the way in above mentioned issues to create the blue print of what a city can do.
