BARRIE - Police are investigating a former employee of the company that was organizing the failed Roxodus festival.
Huronia West OPP are in the middle of an investigation of a former member of MF Live, the company that was to run the now infamously cancelled Roxodus Music Festival on the grounds of the Edenvale Airport.
The massive rock concert, featuring music legends such as Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Kid Rock and a host of others performing next weekend, was abruptly cancelled Wednesday.
Organizers said spring rains made the grounds "unfeasible" for big crowds and large stages - a claim airport officials laughed at.
OPP Sgt. Jason Folz said not much can be revealed about the probe, which he said has been underway since last week.
“We were in the midst of an investigation last week, before the news came out of the festival’s cancellation,” said Folz. “As difficult a time as this is for many who want answers, we would ask that everyone please appreciate that we have an investigation to run and can’t comment any further.”
Repeated calls and emails to Roxodus officials have not been returned. The only response came yesterday in an email that stated: “Roxodus representatives will not be available for interviews today.”
For a while Wednesday, there were rumours floating around on social media amid false reports of a last-minute salvage plan to move the event to Burl’s Creek.
Those plans did not materialize.
“Despite last minute attempts with MF Live to arrange the show at Burl's Creek, we can confirm that Roxodus will not take place at our property,” said a representative of the concert grounds via email.
“Burl's Creek will proceed with its two upcoming shows, the inaugural Big Sky Festival, taking place July 20th and the long-time running Boots & Hearts Music Festival August 8 -11, by festival producers Republic Live.”
