LETTER: Resident concerned with 'jammed' Costco parking lot during pandemic

Resident questions why a small restaurant would have to close when Costco doesn't

Concerned citizen Jen Bailey submitted the following letter to the editor regarding COVID-19 protocols in big box stores like Costco:

Can someone please tell me why a restaurant like The Fat Duck has to close up (they have 4,000 square feet of restaurant) because of COVID-19 but Costco can stay open full tilt?

I thought I would head to Costco at 3:00 p.m. today, thinking it might be less busy.

As I approached, the parking lot looked like what you might expect on a normal holiday season Tuesday. But as we all know this is anything but normal.

With a jammed parking lot you might expect a huge lineup as stores have been told to operate at limited capacity and I remember what it was like in the spring. BUT there was no lineup.

I decided that it wasn’t safe to go in so I turned my car around and left. (Couldn’t find a spot anyway).

Who’s checking up on these places?
