St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph is currently boasting a 98.5 per cent compliance rate among its staff members at the health centre as the mandatory vaccination policy is in effect.

The health centre confirmed of the 649 staff members, 639 are in compliance with the mandatory vaccine policy.

This leaves the health centre with 10 staff who have just over two weeks to comply with the vaccine mandate.

Sandra Ramelli, St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph vice-president of people and strategy, said individuals have until Dec.15 2021 to come into compliance with the policy.

Should they not be in compliance at this time their employment with St. Joseph’s will be reassessed.

The province mandated COVID-10 vaccinations for long-term care staff, with the original deadline set for Nov. 15 which required all in-home staff, support workers, students and volunteers to be vaccinated unless they have a valid medical exemption.

That deadline, however, was pushed back into December when all individuals must provide proof of a final required dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The move to terminate the employment of individuals not in compliance with mandatory vaccine policies comes from a broad approach undertaken by health centres across the province, including Guelph General Hospital, which announced the termination of employment for 13 staffers who were not in compliance with the mandatory vaccine policy.

Similarly, the Groves Memorial Community Hospital and North Wellington Health Care announced on Nov. 15 that six employees have been terminated for failure to comply with the organization's COVID-19 vaccination policy.
