The 10th annual Tour de Guelph, presented by Label Design Ltd., is being held on Sunday, June 25 and registration is open online.

The cycling event welcomes community members of all ages and abilities to register, fundraise and enjoy a bike ride together in support of Guelph General Hospital and numerous local charitable programs through the Rotary Clubs of Guelph South and Guelph Trillium.

Tour de Guelph co-chair, Clarence Haverson, has his sights set on reaching a significant fundraising milestone this year. He shared “In its first nine years, Tour de Guelph raised over $850,000 in net fundraising revenue which has gone a long way to help many people in our community.”

Haverson added “We’re motivated by the community’s enthusiasm for the event and causes that it supports. We believe this year may be the year we exceed $1 million raised!”

Community members can register at TourdeGuelph.ca and they can choose from four registration types:
    1.    Fundraise to Ride: No registration fee, only a minimum $50 fundraising commitment.
    2.    Free Wheeler: No fundraising commitment, simply pay a $50 registration fee.
    3.    5/10 km Accessible Bike Loop: A family-friendly and all-ability route with no fee to register in exchange for a $25 minimum fundraising commitment per registrant.
    4.    Ride Anytime: Those unable to join the event day ride can register, fundraise and complete a bike ride on their own time between June 16 and 25.

Tour de Guelph co-chair, Frank Oudesluys, has been leading the development of this year’s bike routes. He says, “We try hard to ensure there is a distance for everyone to enjoy, from beginners to experienced cyclists, and for varying fitness levels and abilities. Safety is top of mind and we do our best to minimize busy roads and intersections, avoid steep hills and left-hand turns where possible.”

This year, the event sports a new logo. It was designed in partnership with The Letter M Marketing to showcase the event’s welcoming environment for all ages, abilities and styles of bikes – including power assist e-bicycles.

This year’s routes include 25 km, 50 km, 75 km and 100 km road routes, a 50 km multi-surface route, plus the 5/10 km loop through the protected streets of The Village by the Arboretum. Rest stops with water, snacks and portable toilets are along all routes 25 km and longer.

All rides depart from and return to the University of Guelph where there is ample free parking. Registration includes a complimentary BBQ lunch provided by Harvey’s Restaurants of Guelph. Families with young children will also enjoy the BDO Family Fun Zone with bike decorating, face painting and freezes. All riders can have their photo professionally taken on the Finishers’ Podium presented by Elinesky Schuett Private Wealth of RBC Dominion Securities which will be published on GuelphToday.com

Alectra has joined Tour de Guelph as this year’s Fundraising Rewards Sponsor, making available the coveted custom Tour de Guelph jersey for anyone who fundraises $300 and up.

Full event details can be found on the Tour de Guelph website.
