On Thursday, Oct. 20, the Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) team gathered to celebrate the $50,000 Community Building Fund - operating from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that supported vital operations at the Centre.

“This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support the Guelph Youth Music Centre’s operations during a particularly difficult time is great news for many in our community who use the Centre on a regular basis,” said Mike Schreiner, MPP for Guelph. “There are many in the community who will continue to benefit from the numerous programs offered at the GYMC today and in the days to come.”

The generous grant provided the GYMC with support to restart some programs, transition some programs online and/or cohort, increase WIFI to enable one-on-one video streaming lessons and rehearsals, pay for utilities, maintenance and repairs, maintain safety protocols, and keep registration and rental rates stable, allowing children to continue to engage at the Centre.

"The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,” said Gabriella Currie-Ziegler, executive director of the GYMC. “This grant has allowed us to continue to operate and offer our programs and initiatives to children and youth in the community. When so many businesses had to close, we were able to keep our doors open and come back even stronger.”

Established in 1992, the GYMC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to education, enrichment and fostering the development of youth through music and the arts. The unique facility officially opened its doors in September 2001 after six years of renovations. The GYMC is an exciting cultural hub for children of all ages and backgrounds in the community. Through a variety of programs, provision of space to partner organizations and outreach into the community, the GYMC enriches many lives. For more information, click here or call 519-837-1119.
