59-year-old dies suddenly at Erin golf course during Saturday's storm

Police say William Elliott collapsed while trying to extinguish a small fire that had ignited in his vehicle after the storm caused a tree and hydro lines to fall across it

TOWN OF ERIN – On Aug. 28, 2021, at approximately 6:10 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment, along with the Town of Erin Fire Services, Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services and Hydro One responded to report of an injured person at a golf course in the Town of Erin.

Severe weather conditions caused a tree and hydro lines to fall across an unoccupied vehicle that was parked in the lot. The owner approached the vehicle and attempted to extinguish a small fire that had ignited, when he collapsed suddenly. 

William Elliott, 59-years-old of Halton Hills was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Wellington County OPP, OPP Forensic Identification Services and the Office of the Chief Coroner: Ontario continue to investigate the incident.

A post-mortem is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
