Councillors 'choosing to lead by example,' says warden

Council's Thursday meeting was the first one held fully in-person since February 2020.

All sixteen members of Wellington County council are fully vaccinated.

Warden Kelly Linton opened Thursday's meeting with the announcement, explaining each councillor had voluntarily disclosed their status and signed a declaration declaring their full support for the county's "commitment to provide a safe working environment and (take) every precaution reasonable."

The County of Wellington's new vaccine policy, which requires all staff to be fully vaccinated or be required to undergo regular rapid testing, comes into force Oct. 23.

Linton thanked council members for "demonstrating leadership to our community and to our staff today."

"This is yet another example of county councillors choosing to lead by example and choosing to respect the expertise of our health professionals to get to the finish line in the fight against COVID-19," he continued.

He added he didn't take that support "for granted for a minute."
