The Art Gallery of Guelph (AGG) announces the call for submissions for the 2022 Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators. Founded in 2012, the Middlebrook Prize is awarded annually to an emerging Canadian curator who is under 30 with the aim to foster social innovation and curatorial excellence in Canada. Hosted and administered by the Art Gallery of Guelph, the winner is selected by a jury of arts leaders and receives a $5,000 honorarium and mentorship in the development of an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Guelph. Submissions will be accepted until Jan. 24, 2022 at 5 p.m.
By supporting and mobilizing Canadian creative talent, the Middlebrook Prize aims to inspire positive social change in an era of ongoing and unprecedented economic, environmental, social, and cultural challenges. “The Middlebrook Prize has a powerful impact for not only the applicants, but the cultural sector more broadly,” says AGG Director Shauna McCabe. “Supporting young professionals at a critical point in their careers, the winners are among the country’s best and brightest emerging curators with a clear sense of the transformative potential of the arts.”
The 2022 Middlebrook Prize jury is composed of Darryn Doull (Curator, Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery), Jaimie Isaac (Chief Curator, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria), and Bushra Junaid (Independent Curator).
