Lifelong skateboarder Chris V. couldn't think of a better way to celebrate his birthday.

The Guelph man turns 40 this week and thought a perfect celebration would be to try and bring the Guelph skateboarding community together for an afternoon of skateboarding at the Silvercreek Skatepark.

So this Sunday he is hoping that happens. He'll bring the water and hot dogs, you bring your skateboard. The Silvercreek Skatepark is the place, just off Edinburgh Road, starting at noon.

"It's about community," said Chris, who didn't want his last name used.

"I've been skateboarding close to 30 years and I come here all the time. I just wanted to bring everyone that skates here together for some music, some fun and some great skateboarding."

He said he hopes younger skateboarders or those interested come out to watch because there should be some high level skateboarding happening that day.

Chris said since the park opened in 2016 there has been an increase in the quantity and quality of skateboarders in the city and it's not uncommon for people to come from outside the city because the park is so good.

"We've been waiting for something like this for so long, i'm looking forward for everyone getting together and just enjoying a day of skateboarding," he said.
