Residents of a Waterloo Avenue housing complex were evacuated late Tuesday night after a fire broke out in one of the units, with one man taken to hospital.

The fire was reported shortly before midnight at 411 Waterloo Ave., west of Silvercreek Parkway South, explained deputy fire chief Ryan Schubert. Flames were contained to the unit where the fire ignited, though the unit below sustained water and smoke damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Schubert said, adding a damage value estimate isn’t available at this time.

Alternate housing has been arranged for residents of the initial unit as well as the one below, with others in the complex allowed back into their units, Schubert said.
