In May, Eddie Alton announced his retirement from his role as social services administrator after 40 years serving in municipal government.
Over his career, Eddie has held various positions in treasury, public health and social services before spending the last 14 years as social services administrator for the county.
“During Eddie’s 14 years at the county, he has helped build new child care centres, increased affordable housing stock and prepared for the transformation of Ontario Works delivery,” said Scott Wilson, chief administrative officer. “Eddie has participated on many community committees representing the county and his sector. He has served on the Ontario Municipal Social Services Association Board and his advice is sought by others across the province as social services delivery issues arise. I would like to congratulate Eddie on his well-deserved retirement.”
“I am pleased to announce that Luisa Artuso, director of Children’s Early Years Division, has accepted the position of social services administrator,” said Wilson. “Luisa’s tremendous work ethic and dedication will ensure her success as social services administrator.”
Luisa Artuso began her career at the county in 1989 and has held a leadership role in social services for over 20 years. Some of Luisa’s notable accomplishments include:
- Increased child care centres and EarlyON Centres in Guelph-Wellington
- Board of Directors for Ontario Municipal Social Services for 4 years
- Participation on many advisory tables with the Ministry of Education
- Led provincial network tables for 8 years
Eddie will assist with Luisa’s transition into her new role over the summer. Eddie’s last day with the county will be July 29.
