Are you thinking about running for a seat on city council or a local school board during this fall’s municipal election? If so, this might be the opportunity for you.

The City of Guelph is set to host two information sessions on roles and responsibilities, rules, eligibility, fundraising, advertising and more, featuring guest speakers from the city clerk’s office, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing as well as a municipal lawyer.

The first, set for March 30, is being offered virtually while the second, to be held April 12, will be a hybrid of online and in-person.

“Even if you’re just curious, these sessions can help you decide if you want to throw your hat in the ring,” states a city news release. “These sessions provide a great opportunity to learn what it means to be an elected official.”

The March 30 session will run 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and broadcast through WebEx (password “Election”).

The April 12 session is set for 6 to 8 .m. and will be held inside the Guelph council chambers at City Hall (1 Carden St.), as well as online (password “Election”).

Both will be recorded and posted on guelph.ca/vote.

In order to run in the Oct. 24 municipal election, nomination paperwork must be submitted to the city clerk’s office by Aug. 19. The nomination window opens on May 2.

Advanced voting will be held Oct. 8 to 10 and 14 to 16.
