This Guelph sign along Hwy. 6 (a.k.a. Woolwich Street), is slated to be removed by the city.

As development plans move forward for the Guelph Curling Club lands in the city’s north end, municipal officials are planning to remove a ‘Guelph’ sign along the roadside.

“The sign cannot be incorporated into the site design,” explains a post on the city’s website. “The next closest sign in this area is approximately 200 metres away, in front of 804 Woolwich St.”

Plans call for the sign to be removed within the next six weeks from along Hwy. 6 (Woolwich Street).

City officials are set to craft a wayfinding strategy beginning later this year and into next year. That initiative will address directional signage as well as gateway signage, such as the sign to be removed.

In 2020, city council unanimously approved a mixed use development on lands surrounding Guelph Curling Club. The club building is to remain.

Chief Holdings, the project’s proponent, was granted zoning and official plan amendment needed in order to construct 200 stacked townhouse units, a five-storey apartment building with 48 units and a 6,685-square-foot commercial building at 816 Woolwich St. N., north of Woodlawn Road.
