A development of 84 stacked townhomes on Gordon Street got the stamp of approval from Guelph City Council Monday night.

Council voted in favour of the staff recommendation to rezone the property at 1657 and 1655 Gordon St. from its current residential single detached to specialized residential cluster at Monday's planning meeting of council. Final approval comes at full council meeting at the end of the month.

Council voted 12-1 in favour of the development, with coun. James Godon the lone dissenter.

The 1,035 square-metre parcel of land is located just south of Clairfields Drive on the west side of Gordon, fronting on both Gordon Street and Gosling Gardens.

The land currently has two detached homes on the properties.

The original proposal called for 78 stacked townhomes but was amended by the numbered company behind the development.

Estimated development charges coming to the city for the development are roughly $1,844,808 and the estimated annual property taxes are $288,000, says a staffed report.
