NEWS RELEASE
EDEN MILLS WRITERS' FESTIVAL

The Eden Mills Writers' Festival (EMWF) is thrilled to once again offer a series of online author events that will connect readers and writers from across Ontario.

From January to March, with funding received from the Government of Ontario, the EMWF will offer three online events. Each event will showcase a recently published book through a conversation with the book’s author. All events are free and include closed captioning.

The series kicks off on Wednesday, January 31 at 7 p.m. ET with best-selling author Waubgeshig Rice, who will join Mary Ito to discuss Moon of the Turning Leaves. The highly anticipated sequel to the bestselling novel Moon of the Crusted Snow, the novel is a brooding story of survival, resilience, Indigenous identity, and rebirth.

On Wednesday February 21 at 7 p.m. ET, Kevin Chong shares The Double Life of Benson Yu, with event host Steven W. Beattie. The novel, which was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, is a fresh, unique work of metafiction that follows a graphic novelist who loses control of his own narrative when he attempts to write the story of his fraught upbringing in 1980s Chinatown.

Wrapping up the series is Dr. Jennifer Grenz, who joins the EMWF on Wednesday March 27 at 7 p.m. ET for a conversation about Medicine Wheel for the Planet: A Journey toward Personal and Ecological Healing. The book builds on sacred stories, field observations and her own journey, inviting readers to share in the teachings of the four directions of the medicine wheel: the North, which draws upon the knowledge and wisdom of elders; the East, where we let go of colonial narratives and see with fresh eyes; the South, where we apply new-old worldviews to envision a way forward; and the West, where a relational approach to land reconciliation is realized.

Leading up to the events, Guelph Public Library will host community book club gatherings (a mixture of in-person, hybrid and online), providing readers with the opportunity to discuss the books with fellow readers. Registration information can be found on the EMWF’s website.

The EMWF is partnering with booksellers across the province for this event series, and copies of the books featured can be purchased at Magic Pebble Books (Elora), The Bookshelf (Guelph), Novel Idea (Kingston), Octopus Books (Ottawa), Another Story Bookshop (Toronto), Words Worth Books (Waterloo).

Further details can be found at emwf.ca. Media inquiries can be directed to [email protected].
