Plant trees and enjoy entertainment and food this Saturday at a family friendly environmental fair and tree planting event.

Happening on April 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 335 Laird Rd., the day will feature booths, entertainment and food. A variety of 1,400 native trees and shrubs, shovels, mulch, pails and planting instructions will be provided as well.

The event is organized by the city, Trees for Guelph and the Rotary Club of Guelph, and marks the second phase for the new 9.3 acre forest in Guelph located between the wetlands and forests of Hanlon Creek and the natural areas of the Paris Galt Moraine.

Native wildflower pollinator plants will be included at the site as well to enhance the biodiversity and species richness of the site.

Thousands of native trees and shrubs are set to be planted on the site over the coming years, eventually becoming a native forest. The new forest will help clean air and water, provide a home for birds and other wildlife, and eventually sequester carbon.

Participants at Saturday’s planting event are encouraged to wear boots and gloves.
