The Erin Community Centre is getting a $2.64 million upgrade as part of a new joint federal-provincial funding announcement.
The rehabilitation and renovation project will see the installation of a fixed emergency generator, health and safety upgrades to the electrical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, roof structure replacement and a new alarm system. Accessibility improvements will also be made to the elevator, washroom, and signage.
The federal and provincial governments will contribute $1,056,000 and $879,912 respectively, while the Town of Erin will be responsible for $704,088.
Work to be completed at the community centre is one of 35 recreational and community infrastructure projects across the province announced Tuesday by federal and provincial politicians in the Township of St. Joseph near Sault Ste. Marie.
"Ensuring Ontarians have access to recreational infrastructure is vital for community well-being and development," Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Catherine McKenna said in a media release. "Today’s investment in 35 recreation, community, and cultural projects across Ontario will provide thousands of residents access to modern recreational infrastructure where they can come together to create new connections, maintain healthy and active lifestyles and enjoy valued social and recreational programs. Canada’s infrastructure plan invests in thousands of projects, creates jobs across the country, and builds cleaner, more inclusive communities."
