Guelph helps with the cause despite no Terry Fox Run

Online donations topped $25,000 with more to be mailed in

Despite the fact there was no official Terry Fox Run this year, Guelph has still stepped up to the plate in donating to the cause.

The provincial arm of of the Terry Fox Foundation reports that as of Monday morning a total of  $25,259.50 has bee collected to be used for cancer research.

The foundation says that total is all online fundraising, with many people preferring the traditional paper pledge sheets, which will be mailed in over the coming weeks and months.

People were encouraged to fundraise and do their own Terry Fox Runs this year.

Traditionall the Guelph event would have taken place along the banks of the Speed River.

The Guelph run has raised in the neibhbourhood of $35,000 annually the past few years. In 2014 it raised $56,000.

Overall the Guelph run has raised just over $1 million since it began.
